J/Boats to Take On Asia's Sportboat Fleet at Championship Regatta

China sails into the America's Cup. Volvo Ocean Race to Stop Over In China, Singapore, and India. Sailors dazzled by Qingdao Olympic Sailing Venue.

Ten years ago, these headlines might have been hard to believe, yet the sailing fever that is now sweeping the Far East is very real. China and surrounding areas are quickly finding out just how fun and exciting yacht and dinghy racing is, and the demand for high-quality, high-performance boats is beginning to be felt.

JK3 Yachts is the new and exclusive distributor for the entire J/Boats line for Asia, and J/Boats Asia has entered two brand-new J/80 sportboats in next week's Asian International Sportboat Championship to introduce the marque to the locals. "These are exciting times for sailing in Asia," said Jeff Brown, CEO of J/Boats Asia. "With the number of high-profile events coming to the area, people are embracing sailing with incredible enthusiasm, and we're happy to be able to show off the great features and value of J/Boats to sportboat sailors in the region."

Brown and J/Boats President Jeff Johnstone will each skipper a J/80 in the hotly contested Championship, which is organized by the Hong Kong Sportsboat Association. Organizers expect over 40 competing sportboats, including ten boats brought by the China America's Cup team, as well as top teams from Singapore and Australia.

After the Championship, The J/80's will be available as demos for sailors to try out. J/Boats Asia's new HK office will coordinate test sails, and will continue JK3 and J/Boats' tradition of excellent service and support. Brown will open another office in Xiamen, China in 2008, and expects Chinese sailors to embrace the boats. Both offices will initially focus on the introduction of the immensely successful J/80. "The J/80 Class is such a natural for these waters", said Brown. "With their light weight, easy deck layout, and strong, long-lasting construction, both new sailors and experienced racers are quick to fall in love with the yacht." The International J/80 Class just completed its largest World Championship ever, and both the U.S. and European builder continue to work at maximum capacity to fill the strong demand. Asia cannot be far behind.
